Perché visitare Bergamo
Bergamo, birth place of the composer Gaetano Donizetti, is one of the most important cities of Lombardy.
Bergamo is an important city in Lombardy, known for being composed of two cities in one: the Upper Town and the Lower Town.
The Upper Town represents the ancient nucleus of the city and dominates the entire Bergamo region being placed in a higher position. The Lower Town is instead the beating heart of the city and its commercial life.
The funicular for more than 120 years connects the center of the Lower town with the Upper town: two cablecars in a few minutes allow you to overcome a drop of 85mt between flower gardens and unique views.
Bergamo is also one of the five Italian cities (together with Ferrara, Lucca, Grosseto and Padua) whose historic center has remained completely surrounded by the Venetian walls that over the centuries have maintained their original appearance and have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
