Merano is, after the city of Bolzano, the second largest city in South Tyrol. Thanks to its geographical position, in a naturally protected basin, the area enjoys a pleasant mild climate.
A few kilometers from the Austrian border, at the beginning of the century it was one of the favorite destinations for Austrian tourism, which shaped the city into a small Vienna. The city was discovered and more and more frequented by the greatest and illustrious personages of the high aristocracy of all Europe, between which the empress Elisabeth of Austria, or the Princess Sissi.
The city is crossed by the Passirio river which divides it into two parts.
