The city of Aosta has a very ancient history, its origins date back to Roman times and from this period the city still preserves important traces. At this time in fact the Arch of Augustus and the Porta Praetoria date back; the almost complete perimeter of the walls has remained almost completely intact. Subsequently the city had notable development also in the Middle Ages and to this period the famous Collegiata of Sant’Orso dates back.
The historic center today is dotted with small shops where typical products are sold: cheeses, cured meats, the typical black bread from Aosta, made with rye flour.
